What is this year going to be like for you?

This is a year most people are looking forward to – looking forward to a resurgent economy, adapting game-changing ideas, contributing to disruptive innovation, moving with change more comfortably and adopting ethical practices as a way of life. 

Organizations are itching to be quick off the blocks so that they don’t miss on the opportunities. Some have already started running their races. These people will make this year exceptional; create something noteworthy, take their business to new heights, or lead their team to unprecedented performance levels.  And some people will, well… meander around.   

Have you taken stock and decided that this year is going to be a year for doing great work?

Nothing happens on its own. You need to make it happen. And you don’t always get what you want, you most of the time get only what you deserve. Are you going to - for yourself, your team and your organization – give a new meaning to the word ‘proactive’ or to ‘procrastination’? You need to make that decision right now as you are reading this and make a commitment to yourself immediately. 

In this year we should feel a growing need to expand our vocabulary and to understand beyond the basic synonym for a word or phrase and each of us needs to explore how it applies to us and whether we need to work on them. What, for example, do we understand by corruption, narcissism and resilience?

1.  N. Vittal in his book defines corruption as “the lack of integrity--whether intellectual, moral or financial”.

2.  Have you recently asked yourself if you have become a victim of the ‘narcissism epidemic’ or do you even know its symptoms? Have you become your own personal paparazzi?

3. More than education, more than experience, more than training, a person’s level of resilience will determine who succeeds and who fails. 
Resilient people possess three characteristics: a staunch acceptance and clear perception of reality; a deep belief, often buttressed by strongly held values, that life is meaningful; and an uncanny ability to improvise. 

Corporate leaders need to delve fearlessly into the expanded meaning of such words and make a thesaurus for themselves which elevates them to new levels.  

Resolve now to make this year your masterpiece year!
